Submit to Authority... Yuck

When should I obey a law and when should I stand against it?

It is interesting that when going through the scriptures on this topic I fail to see where it calls out standing against a law. I see only that we are to obey a law.

Now that doesn't mean that just because society calls something lawful that God says it is lawful.

Scriptures point to living a life-style that shows others that the Gospel is TRUE!

So how are we to apply these scriptures? Consider this...

  1. Regardless of it being lawful according to society, if God's word tell it is not Holy, we should strive to not do it. (I say strive because we are all fallen and will fail at times.)

  2. If it does not violate God's will, we should Obey.

  3. No where does it say to rebel against Government because they set a law that you do not feel is Holy or within God's will. If the law does not attempt to force you to do something against God's will, Obey. This doesn't mean that social justice and other items should be ignored , they should but that is a different topic to go through.

If we want to change society we have to live differently, act differently, respond differently, especially when we do not agree!

All authority comes from God!

To not align and follow the application above tells me that we are then in opposition to God. Only God can give authority.

Review the scriptures for yourself. Let me know what your thoughts are.

Here are the scriptures that speak to this topic. I encourage all to review them. Consider the context of all. How they all fit together and how they support showing others that the Gospel is true! Leave me your comments and thoughts. Please add the scripture you are focusing your comment on. Lets Talk.

I started this to equip others to read the Bible, reading that it sounds like it would be a daunting task.  It is not, however, most people find the Bible intimidating.  In reality reading the Bible, and most importantly applying it to your life, is not a complicated process.

I pray that you find the information and resources here helpful.
